Step-by-Step Instructions

Prerequisites

  • KlickTipp account with API access: Make sure you have a Premium subscription or higher so that you have access to the API.
  • Make account: Make sure you have a Make account.
  • Meta Business Account: You have a WhatsApp Business account including a phone number and a matching Meta App including a system user for authentication.

Preparations within the KlickTipp Account

Before the integration is set up, all relevant data fields must be created in KlickTipp. These fields enable the correct assignment of the data for the personalized messages. Navigate to your KlickTipp account and create the following data fields under → ContactsData Fields:

NameType
Whatsapp | Product/serviceLine
Whatsapp | Name/companyLine
Whatsapp | URLURL
Whatsapp | URL endingLine

These fields save the transferred data and help to ensure that the integration is complete and correct.

Understanding and Preparing WhatsApp Templates

Important to Know

WhatsApp only allows so-called “message templates” to be sent if there is no active conversation with a contact. These templates must be created and approved by Meta in advance.

If you would also like to send messages manually via WhatsApp, you should take a look at our Superchat template.

  • Open the WhatsApp Manager in Meta.
  • Select the WhatsApp account you are sending with or create a new WhatsApp account and open the → WhatsApp Manager.
  • Create a new template via → Marketing  or → Transactional.
  • Define the body of the message with placeholders for e.g. [Name], [Product], [Link] etc.
  • Optionally add a call-to-action (CTA) such as → Redeem Now  with dynamic URL link. You can make the ending of the link dynamic, for example to redirect to different products: → myshop.com/productA  or → myshop.com/productB.

Import Make Scenarios, Authenticate, and Test Outbound

Use Case: Send Offer

The first part of the use case is about sending an offer to the contact via WhatsApp. The contact already exists in KlickTipp and fulfills the outbound condition and thus triggers the WhatsApp message.

Import and Adjust Your Make Scenario

  • Call up the import link
    • Create the necessary scenario via our import link and follow the wizard or → Guided Setup  or import the template and adjust it manually using the following steps.

If you follow the wizard/guided setup, you can continue from step → Create KlickTipp Outbound.  If you prefer to set it up manually, you can simply continue with the next step.

How to Set Up Automation Triggers in KlickTipp

  • Click on the KlickTipp module and open the settings.
  • Copy the webhook URL and paste it later into your outbound in KlickTipp to trigger the sending of the WhatsApp message.

Set Up the WhatsApp Business Module

  • Click on the Whatsapp Business module and open the settings.
  • Select your connection or create a new one. To do this, you must enter your WhatsApp Business Account ID and a permanent token.
    • You can find your Business Account ID in your Meta Developers account by going to your app and clicking on the WhatsApp module in the API Setup section. The ID is displayed there under → WhatsApp Business Account ID.
    • To generate a permanent token, you must select the app that you have set up for the WhatsApp Business Cloud in your Meta for Developers account.
      • Navigate to the Business Settings section in the left menu and open the system user to which your app and assets have already been assigned.
      • Click on Generate Token. Select the app for which you are setting up the connection.
      • Set the validity of the token to Never Expires if you want a permanent token, or 60 days for test purposes.
      • Then activate all authorizations, especially for WhatsApp (e.g. whatsapp_business_messaging, whatsapp_business_management) and click on Generate Token.
      • Copy the token and store it in Make in the WhatsApp Business Connection.
  • Select sender ID: Select the phone number assigned to you by Meta. This will act as the sender of your WhatsApp messages.
  • Assign recipient number (Receiver): Specify the phone number to which the message should be sent. To do this, you usually select a custom field such as Mobile Phone, in which the recipient's phone number is stored. Alternatively, a general master record field can also be used.
  • Select message template and fill in variables: Select the desired template from your app. The parameters contained therein appear automatically and can be assigned individual values - e.g:
    • First name of the recipient
    • Product or service for which a discount applies
    • Name of the sender
  • If the template contains interactive elements such as buttons, variables such as an individual domain extension can also be used there; if you want to advertise different products, you can use the domain extension in the button to link specifically to product A or product B in the store.
  • Finally, click on Save to save the settings.

Please Note:

Define the mandatory data such as the contact method (WhatsApp number of the recipient) correctly and make sure that the values in the master record of the contacts are filled correctly.

Create KlickTipp Outbound

  • Create an outbound in KlickTipp and name it appropriately, e.g. WhatsApp template discount code.
  • Select a manual tag such as → Send WhatsApp Template Discount Code  as the activation tag for the outbound and paste the copied webhook URL as the activation URL.
  • Click on → Create Outbound.
  • You can then add further master record fields to the outbound, such as in this example the first name, the product for which a discount code is being sent, the sender's name and the dynamic domain extension.

Test & Activate

  • In Make, click on → Run Once  to carry out a test transmission.
  • Assign the activation tag for outbound to your test contact (this must be prepared with correctly filled data fields) and check the Make scenario.

Please note that the cool-down must also be respected when testing via tagging to trigger the outbound. For a second test, you must either wait 6 hours or the outbound must be started via a campaign - there is no restriction on the cool-down here.

Use Case: Sending Auto-Responders

The first part of the use case is about sending an offer to the contact via WhatsApp. The contact already exists in KlickTipp and fulfills the outbound condition and thus triggers the WhatsApp message.
